SEBRING - Police say they arrested a Sebring man for felony battery Friday after a 7-year-old girl alerted a librarian at the Sebring City Library that her mother and boyfriend were fighting.

Glen Edward Sobiecki, 39, of Sebring, was charged with felony counts of battery and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He remained in the Highlands County Jail Tuesday on a $21,500 bond.

Once officers arrived at the library, the young girl told them her mother was being punched in the face by Sobiecki, according to the arrest report.

No one answered the door when police arrived at the mother's house, but they could hear what sounded like a struggle. The officers then went in through the unlocked front door.

"As I opened the door and announced police department, I heard a female voice screaming, 'Help me,' 'Get him off of me,'" Sebring Police Officer Jeffrey Reinhart wrote in the arrest report.

Sobiecki was found on the second floor in the bedroom's doorway. Police said he did not have a shirt on and was "extremely sweaty." The woman was seen on the floor "crying and screaming hysterically."

Officers reportedly found plastics bag containing methamphetamine inside the suspect's pocket. He claimed the white substance was actually salt that he'd been putting on an apple he was eating, the report stated.

No apple was found and the substance allegedly field tested positive for meth.

Sobiecki also complained that his legs were broken and he needed medical attention, despite having no visible injuries, police said. The suspect also indicated there was a camera hidden in the room that would show the woman beating him.

The victim said Sobiecki suddenly started "talking crazy" that morning and yelling at her, according to the report. That woke up the 7-year-old, and the woman then went into the bedroom to try and calm the child down.

"Glen followed her in the bedroom, where he began punching her in the face," the report stated.

The right side of the victim's face was reportedly swollen and her right eye was bruised.
