LAKE PLACID - A Lake Placid man was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital Sunday with critical injuries after being struck by a car while he was on his bicycle.
Jessie T. Zuniga, 20, of Lake Placid, was northbound on Highlands Boulevard in a 1981 Mercedes when he drove left to try and avoid the Schwinn bike that was operated by Rolando Carrillo-Sales, 20, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Carrillo-Sales, "for unknown reasons," then drove right in front of the car and was struck, the FHP said. There was no update on his condition on Monday.
Total damage in the accident was $2,100.
