New boss

Published: October 9, 2009

On the front page of the Sunday, Oct. 4 Tampa Tribune it said "new boss, Martinez aren't strangers."

This article says it all and it is what's wrong with our country. Ex-Senator Mel Martinez, after serving four and a half years of his six year term, resigned saying he wants to spend more time with his family. Guess what! After two weeks he took a job as a lobbyist with DLA Piper. It just happens to be a firm he had contact with while serving on Senate committees.

If you read the article you will find he will be spending much of his time in Orlando (so much for spending time with his family.)

This is an unusually blatant, prime example of the "revolving door" phenomenon; elected officials or government employees moving back and forth to lobbying jobs; so much for "of the people, by the people, for the people!" What we have is "of the corporation, by the corporation, for the corporation." By the way this practice is not restricted to either party.
