Coal and oil

Published: November 22, 2009

I wonder how many people in this country, or the world for that matter, really think we will make any kind of a strong financial recovery without coal and oil?

Our manufacturing plants and all of our industries, as well as our small businesses need an ample, dependable and reasonably priced supply of coal and oil, as clean as possible, preferably from the U.S.

Wind, sun and battery needs to continue to be developed. I wonder, though, how many windmills, solar panels and batteries would be required to run a car manufacturing plant, along with the tires, glass and steel necessary - once, all very successful; once all very successful in this country. Pollution you say? Are you saying China, North Korea, South Korea, India and Iran, etc. are running their manufacturing plants without coal and oil? Our coal and oil would be used much cleaner in this country. Pollution you say? Ours would be cleaner and doesn't all pollution go into the same sky?

We are at least 50 years behind in building nuclear power plants in this country; ask France. Ten percent unemployment? Jobs don't come from government or unions; they come from big and small businesses. By the way, generally speaking, businesses do not pay taxes; they only send to the government what they have first gotten from their consumers when they sell them a product.

I remember Pearl Harbor. We were, as a country, weak. I hope we aren't going down that road again. I guess we would have our "greenies" meet the enemy at our shores with some pretty flowers. They probably wouldn't have any guns. Heavens no!

Approximately 40 or so years ago the Russians invaded Afghanistan. The Afghans would come out of their tunnels and caves, very elaborate as I recall, like ants, slaughtering the Russians and disappear back into their tunnels. I would assume the tunnels, like the one recently found in Iran, are still there. A large conventional bomb or two targeted at a suspected mountain top would tell.

As I recall, President Reagan once mentioned a shining light on a mountain top to assure the world we were here to help and protect them. About now, that light may be sinking into a hole.
