SEBRING - A written plea of not guilty was entered for a 17-year-old charged with attempted first-degree murder.
Stephen Craig Sholtz, 17, of 207 Atterberry Drive, Sebring, was also charged with shooting or throwing a missile into a dwelling, vehicle, building or aircraft in reference to this case. A written plea of not guilty was also entered in a second case where the juvenile is charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to records from the Highlands County Clerk of Courts.
On Sept. 19, Sholtz allegedly fired at Randy Milton Wiley, 24, who was standing in the front entranceway of the Washington Heights Grocery Store off Lemon Avenue, hitting him in the lower left abdomen, according to the arrest report.
The victim was struck in the lower left abdomen and air lifted from the scene for treatment.
One of the bullets hit the front left door frame of the grocery store. The owner and his mother were both inside at the time of the shooting, the report stated.
A majority of the report was redacted and there was no indication of a possible motive for the shooting.
