SEBRING - The Highlands Ridge Quilters have made a unique quilt, "Homes," which will be auctioned Nov. 21 to raise money for Habitat for Humanity of Highlands County.
The quilt's design consists of 18-inch blocks depicting different colored houses. The blocks were made by members of the Highlands Ridge Quilters, and then assembled by Esther Boylan and Betsty Hulsebosch.
Materials for the "Homes" quilt were donated by quilters, and the finish quilting was donated by Quilting by Loraine LLC of Frostproof. This enabled the group to donate the entire proceeds to Habitat.
This is the second major fundraiser for the quilters. For the past three years, they have been assembling lap quilts of red, white, and blue material. The quilts, with various patterns, have been donated to the Wounded Warrior Transition Unit in Wiesbaden, Germany, and given to wounded soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Tickets are $1 each or six tickets for $5. Tickets are available at the Highlands Ridge Quilters, the Habitat Home Supply Store on Commerce Avenue in downtown Sebring, or by calling 382-8562.
The drawing will be held at the annual craft fair at Highlands Ridge. More info: Jennifer McGee, 402-2915 or jmcgee@habitathighlands.org
