AVON PARK - Sarah Adelt gave her notice of resignation as Avon Park's city manager and accepted a position as city clerk of Frostproof in Polk County.
Adelt is set to being her new position on Dec. 2.
Recently Adelt received good evaluations and comments from her constituents but her decision is one driven by faith. The Lord Jesus Christ is first in her life, she said.
"The opportunity presented itself and it was the best choice for me. I believe I'm being led there," Adelt said.
On Wednesday she communicated with city council members about her decision and alerted staff and department heads on Thursday, Nov. 12.
Adelt became city manager on April 28, 2008, and has worked for the city since January 1999.
The change to a more familiar position came to her at Sunday school. She was studying "Having a Mary Heart" in a Martha World book at her church, Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church and was inspired by the message.
The book is about one chapter of your life closing and another opening, she said.
City attorney Gerald Buhr and Mayor Sharon Schuler are working to schedule a special meeting to determine what steps to take in the interim.
Adelt's last working day is Nov. 23, which is followed by a scheduled week vacation.
"The city has a special warm place in my heart. I believe you need to listen to your heart, put in your effort and let God take care of the results," she said.
