Alan Jay buys Wauchula dealerships

SEBRING - The Alan Jay Automotive Network has completed the purchase of English Chevrolet and English Chrysler/ Dodge/ Jeep in Wauchula.

The two dealerships are now renamed Alan Jay Chevrolet of Wauchula, and Alan Jay Chrysler Dodge Jeep of Wauchula.

"Several months ago, we were approached to see if we could manage the operations of the two stores. The dealerships were in real danger of closing forever," said Alan Jay Wildstein, president of the Alan Jay Automotive Network.

The automotive group also owns the Alan Jay Ford dealership in Wauchula, purchased in 2008.

"Both of these 'new' stores are full-fledged members of the Alan Jay Automotive Network," stated Michael Witham, chief operating officer for the automotive group.

"All of the warranties, the commitment to exceptional customer satisfaction, our 'Price-Match Guarantee'......everything carries over to these new locations as well."

In addition to a sales department, the dealerships have a state-of-the-art service facility, with manufacturer-certified technicians and master technicians.

Hollywood actress to sign book

SEBRING - Actress, writer and TV producer Catherine Dyer will speak and sign a copy of her cookbook noon Saturday, Nov. 14 at Inn On The Lakes.

Dyer has roles in three upcoming movies: "The Blind Side" with Sandra Bullock, "The Joneses" opposite Demi Moore, and "Nailed" starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

But more importantly, at least to Ladonna Paedae Rodriquez, Dyer is her college friend.

"We went to school together," said Rodriquez, who arranged the luncheon. "She lived in Sebring briefly, and attended college here."

Dyer had grandparents here, and an aunt on Dinner Lake Drive - Rodriquez doesn't recall their names.

"We were 17 years old, and I met her at lunch, at the college snack bar," Rodriguez said.

After a year, though, Dyer decided to return to her Atlanta home, where she acted in small plays. She then moved to New York, and then to L.A., where she's had roles in "Drop Dead Diva," "Army Wives." Back in Atlanta now, she also produces films for A&E, and makes commercials.

The concept for the cookbook, said Rodriquez, is that Dyer is one of five sisters, and none of them cook: "You know, when you get invited to a party, and they say, 'Oh, just bring a dish.' And she and her sisters - none of them knew how."

Which explains the cookbook title, "You Want Me to Bring a Dish?"

Tickets for the book signing and luncheon are $35. For information, call 471-9400, ext. 191.
