Thank you from Ridge Area Arc

Thanks to everyone who made Ridge Area Arc's Inaugural Halloween 10K and 5K Run-Walk held on Oct. 31 at Highlands Hammock State Park a spook-tacular success! It was wonderful to see athletes of all abilities participate in the event.

I would like to thank the following: Our sponsors - Event sponsor, MidFlorida Credit Union, Hicks Oil, Bill Jarrett Ford, Highlands Today and Lakeside Air Conditioning. Donors: Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, John McClure, Big T Tire, MidState Fire Equipment, Inc. and Red Lobster.

Our many volunteers, especially race director Chet Brojek, Jill Willingham and Friends of Highlands Hammock State Park. Over 100 race participants and all of those who either collected pledges or made pledges to support Arc's scholarship fund.

It was a great time and we hope to see everyone there next year!

Kudos to Children's Museum

Kudos, accolades and a great big "Yes!" to the best birthday location in Highlands County. Of course I am referring to the Children's Museum of the Highlands.

As a grandmother, I found myself totally impressed and secretly relieved to find that all I had to do for my granddaughter's party was "show up." The cake was already in place, as were the drinks, ice cream and a hostess to serve. The table was set with paper products and it was absolutely wonderful to just sit back and "enjoy."

But that is not all, the children had unlimited play time in the wonderfully creative hands on activities of the Children's Museum. Then, when a child and his family chose to leave, they were handed a museum prepared "goodie bag."

What more could any child, parent and-or grandparent ask for? Mrs. Crowder and her staff are to be commended for their sincerity, knowledge and dedication in creating and maintaining this safe, clean, imaginative, absolutely fun environment.

Thank you residents of Avon Park

I would like to thank the residents of Avon Park for getting out and voting in last week's city council election. I am very proud of the turnout, even though it may be considered low by some standards. I would especially like to thank the ones who believed enough in me to cast their vote for me. I am humbled by your confidence and trust in me.

I want you to know that I am not giving up on this city. I plan to continue on my course to help bring this city around. And, as I said to all of you, I still expect your help. Our newly elected city council is still going to need your support. Together we can make Avon Park, once again, a thriving town. We all have to work together in order to accomplish this. I am still going to do my part; hopefully you will also. Once again, thank you! Thank you! Thank you! And God bless.

It is with great joy we are writing this letter. We have been so greatly blessed since you came to us a year and a half ago. You started visiting right away and our attendance has grown and grown. You have traveled hundreds of miles to visit us in hospitals and nursing homes. You've waited hours and hours when we've had surgeries. Your sermon messages have lifted us and challenged us. We've all received comfort and hope, encouragement and heartfelt changes through your sermons. Many individual needs have been met and God's own messages provided when you spoke.

You have been God's messenger as you've seen the important roles God has for our members and you've asked many individuals to serve in unique ways. Your leadership has brought diversity in worship and prayer. Large screen TVs now add DVDs and visual supplements for worship. There is family altar prayer on Sunday mornings, group prayer surrounding individuals, prayer services for special causes and many other avenues of prayer.

You brought us your talented, spirit-filled, dedicated, kind and caring wife, Charletta. You created a Web site for us. You've led us during difficult times with tact and optimism. You've been a steady pilot at the helm, with a great sense of humor at exactly the right time.

You've been a participant in community church events and you have been faithful in all our services. We have an ever expanding Hispanic ministry with its own services and events. Our church has been profoundly challenged, changed and expanded in its ministries since you've come. You've led us to produce fruit for eternity. Please receive our most sincere thanks
