AVON PARK - The official opening of the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) Terminal Building at the Avon Park Municipal Airport is today, said C.B. Shirey, airport manager.
There will be an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mayor Sharon Schuler will perform the ribbon-cutting at 10:30 a.m.
The new building includes an office for the FBO manager, an area for pilots with a lounge and a computer area, a restroom and vending machine facilities, and a rental car area.
The city hopes more pilots will land their planes with a more convenient and modern space for pilots and their passengers.
The FBO used to be housed in a section in the maintenance hangar that received considerable water damage from a hurricane in 2004.
