LAKE PLACID - A loaded U-Haul trailer that was picked up in Sebring at about 9 a.m. on Saturday caught fire by the time it reached Lake Placid, said Lake Placid Officer Heather Mulligan.
After he noticed smoke coming out of the engine on the passenger side of the vehicle, the driver parked the trailer behind South Florida Community College, Mulligan said. He was able to safely get out of the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames.
It took the Lake Placid Fire Department about five minutes to get the fire out, Mulligan said. No one was injured and all the items in the trailer were a total loss except for two guns.
