LAKE WALES - In the regional semifinals for the third consecutive year, Sebring faced Lake Wales Friday night.
Sebring strands two runners in the top of the first. Game is scoreless.
RBI singles by Warren, Lane and Kirby help Lake Wales score 5 runs in the bottom of the first. Lake Wales leads 5-0.
In the top of the fourth, Sebring's Cody Hoffner doubles and advances to third on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly by Josh Chavis scores Hoffner. Lake Wales leads 5-1.
Lake Wales answers with three runs in the bottom of the fourth as Colt Davis collects his second RBI of the evening and Justin Schaffer added a run-scoring base hit as Lake Wales took an 8-1 lead. However, starting pitcher Rob Lane for Lake Wales struck out to end the inning and threw his bat in disgust and was promptly ejected by the home plate umpire.
New pitcher Justin Schaffer ran into trouble in the top of the fifth as Sebring loaded the bases with only one out. The Lake Wales right-hander was equal to the task and retired the next two hitters to escape the jam. Lake Wales leads 8-1.
Lake Wales tacks on another run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Schaffer to give the Highlanders a 9-1 lead.
Justin Schaffer went three-for-four with two RBI and hurled three scoreless innings of relief to lead Lake Wales to a 9-1 victory over Sebring in the Class 4A regional semifinals on Friday night.
