BARTOW - The Sebring baseball team held on with the tying run at the plate on Tuesday night to escape Bartow with a 7-4 victory and a third straight trip to the Class 4A regional semifinals.
The Streaks, District 10 runners-up, will hit the road once again to face Lake Wales at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Highlanders knocked off D10 champion Braden River 1-0 on Tuesday night.
The Blue Streaks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Jesse Baker knocked an RBI triple and Josh Chavis added an RBI single to put the momentum in Sebring's dugout.
Sebring then jumped ahead 7-0 with a five-run fifth, highlighted by a Gus Williams two-RBI double and second RBI single by Chavis. Bartow got three back in the bottom half of the fifth when Christian Rivas smashed an RBI double and teammate Buddy Putnam knocked an RBI single to bring the Yellow Jackets within striking distance.
Sebring got out of a jam in the fifth with the bases loaded, when senior Cody Higgins relieved Chavis and pitched his way to a groundball with the tying run at the plate to end the inning.
