LAKE PLACID - A two-vehicle crash on State Road 70, just east of New Pine Ridge Road, took the life of a Lake Placid man at about 9:40 p.m. Monday, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

Russell L. England, 49, was killed when he was ejected from his 2002 Chevrolet van after crossing over the eastbound center broken yellow line, directly into the path of a westbound 2002 Mack truck driven by Homero Espinoza Bedolla, 40, of Nocatee.

Following the impact, the van spun clockwise and ended up in the south shoulder of State Road 70. England was thrown on the grass shoulder.

England was not wearing a seat belt, the report stated. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other vehicle continued in a westerly direction, over the east bound lane, on the south grass shoulder and down an embankment.

Bedolla was wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries.

The impact caused an estimated $10,000 damage to the van and $20,000 damage to the Mack truck.

No charges had been filed at this time.
