LAKE PLACID - A 23-year-old woman, with a 2-year-old in the back seat, was killed early Sunday morning on Placid Lakes Boulevard after she went off the road and hit a parked car head on, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Nichole C. Smith of Lake Placid died about midnight when the 1993 Honda she was driving hit a 2000 GMC that was parked in a driveway.
Jordan Lee, 2, was "partially ejected" from the back seat of Smith's vehicle, the report said. Lee was not wearing a seatbelt. It was unclear whether Lee was in a car seat.
The front of the Honda hit the lower left side of the GMC.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith was not wearing a seat belt, either, and the FHP report states that it was an alcohol-related accident.
Lee sustained serious injuries and was transported to Tampa General Hospital for treatment. Lee is in critical condition.
