LAKE PLACID - Kathy Yacoboni spent a lot of time on the telephone Thursday, but the calls didn't have anything to do with her business.
The owner of Foliage Tower, which is a couple of doors down from the Tower Restaurant, was fielding inquiries about the longtime Lake Placid eatery that closed recently.
"I have been inundated by calls," she said, noting that one call came from a customer in Fort Lauderdale.
Yacoboni said she was sad to hear about the restaurant because she ate there often.
Her store has been a mainstay at the plaza. It is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month.
Lorelei Dehne, has operated Goodness Gracious for 13 years there. The specialty gift shop shares a door to the restaurant.
"I was very distressed and surprised; they are the anchor," she said. "The restaurant is the driving force behind the complex."
Dehne said she had a clientele of her own, but expects there will be less walk-up traffic into the plaza.
John Donohue, owner of Graphic Impressions, said he was somewhat surprised to hear about the restaurant's closing.
"There are not that many places to eat in Lake Placid," Donohue said.
"It will be missed by a lot of people," he added.
It is not clear why the restaurant closed. Attempts to reach owners Keith and Michelle Urweider have been unsuccessful.
The tenants are hopeful that another eatery will move into the space.
