SEBRING INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY - A 48-year-old man was helicoptered from Sebring International Raceway Saturday morning after he fell from a pickup truck.
Deputy J.P. Fane said Steve D. Griffin was sitting on the tailgate of a pickup truck at 12:45 a.m.
"It made a fast start," Fane said. "He fell off and struck his head on a hard surface on the midway."
Griffin, whose address is unknown, was Life Flighted from the raceway.
"He was supposed to go to Tampa," Fane said. Weather conditions cancelled that flight, however, and he was taken to Florida Hospital in Sebring. Griffin was later transferred to Sarasota.
In other raceway incidents, 13 people were arrested for minor offenses, Fane said. Most were alcohol or marijuana related.
