CLEWISTON - Kyle Barber went 3-for-4 with four RBI and pitcher CW Vaught allowed three runs in five innings to lead Lake Placid past Clewiston by a score of 9-4 in high school baseball on Thursday night.
Brad Stayton had three hits as the Green Dragons improved to 5-7 on the season.
"We swung the bats well and played solid defense," said Lake Placid coach Dan Coomes. "The guys have been playing hard and it's starting to pay off for us.
"If you play hard all the time good things happen."
Lake Placid is back on the diamond today with a game at Sarasota Booker.
BASEBALL: St. Albans 8, Sebring 0
SEBRING - St. Albans used a dominating pitching performance and timely hitting to defeat Sebring 8-0 in baseball at Firemen's Field on Thursday night.
"The St. Albans pitcher could throw three pitches for strikes," said Blue Streak assistant coach Buck Rapp. 'We couldn't get anything going, but give St. Albans credit because they swung the bats and made all the plays."
Sebring hosted Class 4A-District 10 rival Palmetto on Friday night at Firemen's Field.

SOFTBALL: Frostproof 14, Avon Park 1
AVON PARK - Frostproof came off the bus swinging the bats and never stopped in a 14-1 win over Avon Park in girls softball on Thursday night.
"Frostproof is a good team, but we fell back into some of our old ways," said Red Devil coach Wade Jackson. "We made some mistakes and errors that we haven't been making and Frostproof took advantage.
"We're going to have to find a way to get back on track."

GIRLS TENNIS: Sebring 5, Sarasota Booker 2
SEBRING - The Sebring girls tennis team kept rolling with a 5-2 win over Sarasota Booker in a Class 2A-District 9 tennis match on Thursday.
Blue Streak Kelsie Johnson knocked off Shelby Johnson at No. 1 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-2, while Kaley Walter eased past the Tornadoes Dara Kates at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
Sebring's Alyssa Kariofyllis rolled at No. 3 singles past Emily Charlson, 6-1, 6-4, while Tucker and Heather McIntyre won No. 1 doubles, 8-2 and Kariofyllis and Shana Bassett won No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
The Blue Streaks improved to 9-1 on the season and will host district rival Lake Placid on Monday at the Sun 'N Lake tennis courts.
GIRLS TENNIS: Clewiston 5, Lake Placid 2
Lake Placid's Wendy Oseguera and Johneesia Sholtz won their singles matches, but it wasn't enough as Clewiston held on for a 5-2 win over the Green Dragons in girls tennis on Thursday.
"I'm very proud of the girls because they have kept positive attitudes and played hard in every match,' said Lake Placid coach Jennifer Miller." Even the Clewiston coach complimented me on their behavior."
BOYS TENNIS: Sarasota Booker 4, Sebring 3
SARASOTA - Sebring's Mike Reed, Kyle Komisar and Nikhil Raghuveera won their respective singles matches, but Sarasota Booker rallied for a 4-3 win in a Class 2A-District 9 boys tennis match on Thursday.
The loss dropped the Blue Streaks to 10-1 on the season.
"We came out flat and didn't have a lot of energy for the match," said Sebring coach Jack Holt. "Booker is a good team, but we just didn't play up to our ability."
The Blue Streaks are back on the court on Monday with an away match at Lake Placid.
"I hope the loss serves as a wakeup call for us," Holt said. "We have a lot of talent on this team, but we have to play hard every match and not take any team for granted.
"The districts are coming up in a few weeks and we need to be peaking at the right time."
BOYS TENNIS: Clewiston 4, Lake Placid 3
LAKE PLACID - Lake Placid's Jacob Underwood and Andreas Berg won their respective singles matches, but Clewiston used its depth to beat the Green Dragons by a score of 4-3 in boys tennis on Thursday.
"We continue to improve with each match we play,' said Green Dragon coach Dennis Berard. "We're more than halfway through the season and we have an idea of what our lineup is going to be for the remainder of the season.
"The guys are working hard on every part of their game so that we'll be playing our best tennis when the district tournament rolls around in a few weeks."
Lake Placid hosts Class 2A-District 9 rival Sebring on Monday.
SFCC SOFTBALL: Manatee, 6, 7 SFCC 0, 3
AVON PARK - South Florida Community College left a combined 20 runners on base in dropping a Suncoast Conference doubleheader to Manatee by score of 6-0 and 7-3 on Thursday.
"We got runners on, but we couldn't get them in," said SFCC coach Carlos Falla. "We did not do a good job of situational hitting.
"It's frustrating, but we have to hang in there and keep playing hard."
The Panthers, who are 3-5 in conference play, are at Manatee today for a doubleheader.
"We had to change our schedule around and now we're going to be on the road a lot," Falla said. "There's a lot of softball left to play and we need to get it together and start playing smart and turn this thing around."
