Three people were injured Wednesday in a two-vehicle accident that happened at the intersection of State Road 66 and Skipper Road.
Roy Lavengood, 79, of Kokomo, Ind., who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet van, pulled into the intersection and was hit by a 1995 Mack Truck driven by Malckom Williams, 53, of Lake Placid, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Lavengood reportedly failed to observe the right-of-way of the truck, which was eastbound on State Road 66 and coming up to the Skipper Road intersection. That intersection is controlled by a stop light.
Both Lavengood and Williams suffered minor injuries and were taken to Highlands Regional Medical Center for treatment, the FHP said. A passenger in the Chevy van, Martha Lavengood, 79, also of Kokomo, was taken to Tampa General Hospital for serious injuries suffered in the accident.
All those involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Total damage to both vehicles was $15,000.
