St. PETERSBURG - The South Florida Community College baseball team started strong and never let up in routing St. Petersburg College by a score of 12-7 on Saturday.
The Suncoast Conference win improved the Panthers, who snapped a three-game losing streak, to 21-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
"We've been doing enough to get things started and be within reach of games, but not finishing the job," said South Florida coach Rick Hitt. "We just decided to leave no doubt today.
"We left a lot of men on base, but it was a good win after a couple of tough losses."
Panther sophomore left-hander Johnny Sedlock earned the win by limiting the potent Titans to four runs in his five innings of work.
Russell Kastor picked up the save with four innings of solid relief.
"Johnny gave us a quality start and we took advantage by scoring some early runs," said Hitt. "This was one of those defining moments in the season and we answered the bell with a good effort."
South Florida, which lost 12-11 to St. Petersburg on Friday night, banged out 22 hits and scored three runs in the first inning, three more in the third and five in the fifth to take command of the game.
Jose Rodriguez led the Panther attack with four hits and three RBI, while Jerry Neufang had three hits and Chaz Abeln went 3-for-5 with three RBI.
South Florida is on the road today for a Suncoast Conference game against Polk Community College.
"It was a good win for us," said Hit. "We're back on the road against a tough opponent on Monday and our goal as a unit is to make sure we're doing whatever it takes to get the job done every day."
