LAKE PLACID - An Okeechobee woman remained in jail Friday on a $5,200 cash bond following her arrest on warrants alleging she entered her ex-boyfriend's home without permission and made off with a pair of shoes and other items.

Rosalia Theresa Garcia, 20, of 3499 NW 3rd St., Okeechobee, was arrested Tuesday on warrants charging burglary of a dwelling while unarmed and petty theft.

On May 25, 2008, a woman living in the 300 block of Jordan Terrace in Lake Placid was awoken at 3:45 a.m., by her dog barking inside the home. While checking the residence, she allegedly found Garcia, her son's ex-girlfriend and mother of their child, in his bedroom, according to the warrant report.

Garcia told the woman she had come to pick up a phone charger before leaving the house in a "hastily manner" with a pair of shoes and other unidentified items, the report stated.

The woman told law enforcement Garcia did not live at the home, had never lived there and was told on several occasions that she was not welcome. The suspect reportedly got into the house through an unlocked door that is adjacent to the son's bedroom.

After returning home and learning of Garcia coming into the house uninvited, the son told authorities he never gave her permission to come in and take any items. The shoes were reportedly given to him by the suspect and worth $50. He believed the other items taken could have been personal court documents, the report stated.
Highlands County Sheriff's Deputy Doris E. Rebmann made the arrest.
