Pasco Pounds Past Panther Baseball

AVON PARK - Jerry Neufang and Ryan Williams went deep, but the South Florida Community College baseball team couldn't take advantage of early opportunities as it dropped its third straight game, 13-7 to Pasco Community College in Suncoast Conference action at Panther Field.

Neufang hit a solo home run and Williams had a three-run homer late, but coach Rick Hitt said the Panthers missed their chance to pounce early.

"We really had an opportunity to get a big lead early, but we only managed a couple of runs," Hitt said. "We were up 2-0 after two innings, but we made some base running and bunt mistakes and a couple mistakes on defense, and before we know it, we're down 7-3."

The Panthers (20-9, 1-2) couldn't recover, and Pasco poured it on, going up 12-3 at one point.

"Pitcher Matt Fuglesang had been cruising before that point, but we never really got back into it," Hitt said. "We came back a little bit, but we had our opportunities early and we didn't take advantage of them.

"We've dropped a couple of games, and that's a new thing for us. Two were hard-fought, but I think Monday was a bit of a letdown."

The Panthers are back in action today when they travel to No. 8-ranked St. Petersburg College. They host St. Pete on Friday at 6 p.m.

"We need to play clean baseball," Hitt said.
