ORLANDO - Sebring High School senior Megan Wolfe and Lake Placid junior Tammi Beach competed in the Florida Swimming Spring Senior Championships at the YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando over the weekend.
The pair, who are on the Highlands Hurricanes Swim Team, participated in the meet, which included 735 competitors from 53 teams throughout Florida.
Wolfe, who was Highlands Today's 2008 Swimmer of the Year and finished third in the 50-yard freestyle event at the Class 2A state meet in November, finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle over the weekend with a time of 23.87
Wolfe also swam in the 100-yard backstroke and the Blue Streak athlete finished 27th with a time of 1:02.38.
Beach, who was a member of Highlands Today's 2008 All-Heartland swim team and owns the school record in the 200-yard freestyle, competed in the 15-16-year-old age group in the 50-yard freestyle and the Green Dragon swimmer finished with a time of 26.91.
The Heartland swimmers also got to meet American Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte, who was a double gold medal winner at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and is the current world record holder in the 200-meter backstroke event.
Next up for the Highlands Hurricanes Swim Team is the 2009 Southern Zone Sectional Meet March 19-22 in Fort Lauderdale.
