SEBRING - The Sons of AmVets Bob McKinney golf tournament just keeps getting bigger and better.
The fifth annual tournament attracted a field of 68 golfers who competed in a four-person scramble format over the tight and demanding Sebring Golf Club layout on Saturday.
When all the birdies and eagles were added up, and there a lot of them, there was a tie at the top between two talented teams.
The foursome of Dale Bradley, Mike Browning, Barry Tupper and Wayne Hermson shot a 13-under-par 59, and won a match of cards with the talented team of Joe Stacey, Mary Stacey, Sal Sboto and John Smutnick, who also shot a 59.
The tie was broken by matching scorecards and it took going to the fifth hole to get a winner.
The foursome of Bob Fulcher, Rene Brown, Bill Yeager and Roger Lynch finished third with a 10-under-par 62, while Joe Waters, Barry Fitzgerald, Bill Wahaylen and Chris Wirth came in fourth at 65.
Doug Ebling, Dave Majack, Dan Smart and Walker Spence came in fifth at 66, after a match of cards with Jim Kahn, Carol Kahn, Ron Rieches and Sharon Rieches.
Bob Maccarick, Jim Quartier, Mike Collier and Phil Robiag finished with a 67, while Jerry Miller, Bill Gallagher, Jim Szelagowski and Jack Neihoff came in at 68.
Also at 68 were Roy Oke, Ken Farano, Rudy Pribble and Bob Poulin, along with Jim Louzan, Jim Morgan, Gary Van and Jim Boismer.
The foursome of Jim Mcalpine, Tony Mordenga, Rich Derose and Roger Hamel shot a 69, while Matt Castle, Wayne Bonnell, Dave Richardson and Leo Lipomi came in with a 71.
Tom Gaiownik, Dennis Haybert, Ken Stanek and Harry Bell shot a 71 and Boyd York, Dutch Shilling, Sonny Sheltons and Bob Hamilton finished with a 72.
Bruce Cowles, Howard Mason, Dan Stout and Ron Hessler came in at 74, as did Ken Reynolds, Bill Adkins, Bob Howden and Cary Harwood.
Ruth Ann Dunderley, Larry Wise, Bob Richards and Laura Smutnick shot a 75.
Closest-to-the-pin winners were Dale Bradley on Hole No. 3, Jim Boismer on hole No. 5, Jim Morgan on hole No. 11 and Harry Bell on hole No. 16.
