Letters To The Editor

I have read the letters in recent weeks regarding the SHS Band uniforms. I'm very shocked that the colors are trying to be changed to blue, black and white. The reasoning is to hide mistakes! Does any of our band students and the director even know or care about the history of the SHS Band?
I agree if the uniforms need to be updated then update them, but keep the blue and white. If you go to the competitions and all the other bands are in black then where is the originality at? I'm sure the judges get tired of seeing black all the time. Maybe they need to practice more if they are making mistakes or maybe change the director if that is truly the problem.
I am very proud to say that I am alumni. You know if you are concerned with the cleaning bill then why black? Black can show up as bad at times as white. What are you going to do when they walk over the chalk on the field and get it all over those black pants. Then there is the expense of changing the shoes, or are they going to spray paint as they did their hats?
We went to a game last year and we were embarrassed by the painted hats. Maybe if we put all this effect in making our band the greatest ever again as they have in wanting change the colors, then we would have one heck of a band.
Maybe the director and the parents should put an ad in the paper and get the community's opinion; I bet they would agree on blue and white. During my years at SHS we received superior first time around every time we went to a competition. All I am saying is keep the blue and white; you can get all blue uniform with white lightning bolts. Keep tradition alive; always a Blue Streak, go big blue!
