Water Aerobics
SEBRING A water aerobics summer class will begin on June 23 at the Sebring High School pool. The class is being taught by licensed instructor Ricki Albritton every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and the cost is $2 for each class. Basketball fundraiser
AVON PARK The Red Devil basketball program is holding a fundraiser game with the varsity squad taking on an Avon Park alumni squad on Saturday, July 4 beginning at 4 p.m. in the high school gym.

LP swim program
LAKE PLACID The Lake Placid High School pool has open hours Monday through Saturday from 1 until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday's open hours at night are from 6-8 p.m.
During evening swim time there will be lanes set up for lap swimming. Summer swim lessons are also available and for more information, contact Cindy Rivers at 699-5010 or 441-5010.
Dragon basketball camp
LAKE PLACID A basketball camp for girls and boys in grades 1 through 8 will be held June 25-27 at the Lake Placid Middle School gym. Cost of the camp, which runs from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., is $40 per person. Check in is at 7:45 a.m. and for more information, contact David Veley at 381-4202.
Golf lessons
SEBRING Debby McNall will be holding junior golf clinics for ages 5-17 on Friday mornings at Golf Hammock at 10 a.m. Cost is $10 per child.
Ladies "Hit and Giggles" clinics will run on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. with the cost $20 per person for clinic and play.
Adult clinics will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday mornings.

Firecracker 5K run/walk
SEBRING The 15th Annual FIRECRACKER 5K RUN/WALK is scheduled for Saturday, July 4 at 7:30 a.m. in Highlands Hammock State Park. The annual celebration of our nation's birthday always draws a large field of runners in the race that benefits the Avon Park High School boys and girls' cross country programs.
Early entry fee is $17 and after June 29th thru race day registration the fee is $25. Checks should be made payable to Central Florida Striders and mailed to Chet Brojek, 3310 Par Road, Sebring, FL 33872. Entrants not using an entry form should include their age(s), tee shirt size, and run or walk participant information along with their check.
T-shirt sizes can be guaranteed for pre-registered participants only.
"This year's race will feature dri-fit t-shirts, plaques for overall, master and grand master male and female winners, trophies to the first in each five year age division and medals to second and third place finishers."

Youth tennis camp
SEBRING A youth tennis camp for boys and girls ages 6-18 will be held at the Thakkar Tennis Center at the Country Club of Sebring beginning June 8 and running through July 31. The cost for the week-long camps, which run from 9 a.m. until noon Monday through Friday, is $100 per child.

SEBRING Sun 'N Lake country club will hold weekly junior golf clinics from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays.

Weekend youth pick-up baseball players wanted
SEBRING Want to play ball? Need a break from video games? Players are being sought for pick-up baseball games at noon on Saturdays and Sundays at the YMCA softball fields.
There is no cost. Parents are invited to join in and play with their kids, and all skill levels and ages are invited. Games are for fun and beginners are welcome.

Royal Palms offering youth bowling league
LAKE PLACID Royal Palms' youth bowling league begins its fall season on Saturday, Aug. 29 for ages 7 and up.
Cost is $20 to register and $11 per week, which includes three games and a tee-shirt. New bowlers are welcome. Bowling is at 9 a.m. every Saturday morning through Dec. 5.
All league bowlers accompanied by adult are eligible for reduced rates and free bowling with instruction from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays.

SFCC offering summer baseball camps
AVON PARK South Florida Community College is offering summer baseball camps from 9 a.m. to noon, Mondays through Thursdays, from June 8 to July 9.
Cost is $50 per week or $225 for five weeks for the camp, which is open to ages 6-18.
Cost includes daily snacks, tee shirts for all campers, pool time. Camp will focus on offensive and defensive fundamentals, baseball-oriented agility, fitness center and daily aquatic training and bullpen sessions and games each week.

Sebring High pool open, lessons available
SEBRING The Sebring High School pool is open from 6-7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-3 p.m. on weekends, with additional hours to be added after school breaks for summer.
Cost is $2 per swimmer. Family passes are available for $50 for the first swimmer and $15 for each additional swimmer.
Swim lessons will be offered this summer for all ages, infants through adults.
Cost is $45 for two weeks (10 days) of lessons. Sign-ups will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 4 and Tuesday, May 19 at the SHS front office and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning May 5.

Heartland Kids golf camp
AVON PARK Heartland Kids Camp 2009 will be held June 23 to July 3 at River Greens golf course.
Cost is $50 per week or $20 per day for camp, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and is open to ages 5-15. It includes optional lunch and work on full swing, short game, etiquette, rules, contests and other activities. Enroll in all four weeks for $175 per child.
Camps are limited to first 30 kids per session.

Sun 'N Lake summer junior golf camps registering
SEBRING Sun 'N Lake will hold its junior golf camps from June 8 to July 31 in full-week sessions and four day camps.
Full-week (Monday-Friday) camps cost is $100 for first child, $70 for additional family member. Four-day (Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri) camps cost $80. Both camps will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon ( and include breakfast and lunch, along with recap and instruction led by pros Andy Kesling, Jose Lule, Marty O'Hora and Ron Wonderling.
Camps are limited to 20 children each week.

Panther volleyball summer camp on tap
AVON PARK The Panther volleyball team will hold its annual summer camp July 27-30 at South Florida Community College.
Cost is $100, which includes a T-shirt. Camp includes instruction on the court, in the sand and in the pool from Panther head coach and camp director Kim Crawford, a three-time college All-American, professional and seventh-year SFCC volleyball coach.
Bring shorts, T-shirts, kneepads, gym shoes, water bottle, swimsuit, towel and sunscreen, all marked with camper's name.
The four-day camp is open to grades 6-12 and limited to first 30 applicants.
Avon Park Recreation summer camp registering
AVON PARK The Avon Park Recreation summer program camp for ages 5-12 will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, from June 15 to Aug. 7.
Cost is $35 per week for first 80 spots, which includes breakfast and lunch. Field trips to APHS pool and Kegel Bowling Center are offered with additional fee.

Pearson fundraising golf tournament on tap
AVON PARK A fundraising golf tournament for Jason Pearson is set for 8:30 a.m. on June 27 at Pinecrest golf club.
Cost is $60 per person for the four-person scramble, which includes on-course refreshments, men's and women's closest-to-the-pin contest, lunch and prizes at Blue Crab.
Proceeds benefit Pearson, who is recovering from a January motorcycle accident.

Golf Hammock junior camp on tap
SEBRING Golf Hammock will hold a junior golf camp from 9 a.m. to noon June 22-26.
Cost is $95 and $80 for a sibling, which includes lunch and instruction on etiquette, basics and intermediate play in all phases of golf strokes. The camp will be led by a golf professional who has worked with juniors for over 15 years.
He willl also be holding adult clinics in the afternoon that week for all skill levels.

Sebring Youth Football offering physicals
SEBRING Sebring Youth Football will provide low-cost sports physicals for participants ages 5-14 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 18. Adult softball
SEBRING The Highlands County Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting an adult softball tournament this weekend at the Highlands County Sports Complex.
The "Midnight Madness Tournament" will begin at 10:30 a.m. with co-ed divisions, followed by upper and lower divisions beginning at 6:00 p.m.
At midnight, there will be a $5000 cash lottery drawing. Prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in each division. Entry fee is $275.00 per team. No charge for spectators.
