LP men die in Putnam County traffic accident

SAN MATEO - Two Lake Placid men died earlier this week after being involved in a two-vehicle accident in Putnam County.

Noe Cervantes, 26, of Lake Placid, died at the scene after his 1998 Chevy Cavalier collided head-on with a 2005 Ford Explorer driven by Susan Basse, 50, of Crescent City, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident happened Monday at 6:35 a.m., on State Road 100 approximately three miles east of San Mateo.

A passenger in Cervantes' vehicle, Felipe Vazquez, 31, also of Lake Placid, was taken to a Gainesville hospital with critical injuries. He died at 12:30 p.m., according to Trooper Kelvin Vega.
Basse was taken to a Jacksonville hospital for treatment of serious injuries, the FHP said.

The crash is still under investigation. All those involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. Total damages were $13,000.
