SEBRING - A routine traffic stop in Highlands County on Saturday led to the arrest of a North Carolina man charged with killing a soldier assigned to Fort Hood, Texas.
Demar J. Bryan, 22, is accused of shooting and killing Charles Clements, 27, at a Spring Lake, N.C., nightclub on March 29, according to Debbie Tanna, public information officer for the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. Spring Lake is located about five miles from Fayetteville.
Bryan also allegedly shot and severely wounded Arthur Mwebe, 26, a Fort Bragg soldier who was a friend of the victim's.
The suspect is scheduled for a Wednesday hearing to see if he will fight extradition back to Cumberland County to face charges of first-degree murder.
