LAKE PLACID - A 13-year-old Lake Placid boy was in the care Friday of the Department of Juvenile Justice in Bartow after he was charged in connection with the July 16 burglary of a home in the 100 block of Cumberland Street.
Sheriff's investigators were called to the victim's home on July 22 and were told that a witness saw the youth on the property on July 16. The victim also reported that she had been burglarized on July 22 and wished to report both incidents.
The victim told police that she was missing $100 in coins and $500 in cash as well as an unknown value in jewelry.
The victim told investigators that she knows the youth and did not give him permission to be on her property. There were also several shoe impressions left at the scene.
When deputies caught up with the boy, the bottom of his shoes reportedly matched those left at the crime scene.
The boy admitted to the crimes, the report stated.
He was charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and first-degree theft. The report does not state if any of the stolen property was recovered.
