I unequivocally support President Obama's three basic principles for health care reform in 2009: 1. Reduce costs by improving efficiency and investing in preventative care. 2. Guarantee every American the right to choose their plan and doctor, including a public insurance option. 3. Ensure quality, affordable care for every American.
The Constitution states that we have a right to life. Right now, 45 million Americans are uninsured, premiums are growing four times faster than wages and half of all personal bankruptcies stem from medical expenses.
I was recently told by a surgeon's office manager that because I had Medicaid share of cost coverage, I "could not have surgery;" that I was not one of the lucky ones. The manager corrected herself, but the statement was made and I realized that that was what she really meant.
The class system in our country, in our democracy, is growing worse every day. I implore all people of decency in this fine state of Florida to realize what is at risk and I implore all members of Congress to do the same. Time is of the essence.
