LP Interlake Boulevard street party set
LAKE PLACID - Lake Placid merchants along Interlake Boulevard will host a street party today with music, food and sidewalk sales from 6 p.m. to 9.
Thirty-one businesses will be participating with sidewalk sales and event specials. Entertainment will include a salute to the armed forces at 6 p.m., a display by Wrede's Wildlife and a wedding expo. Food will include barbecue, hot dogs and funnel cakes.
Home improvement products and services will also be displayed. Activities and youth fundraisers will be featured in Johns Park.
This event will be held monthly on the first Friday evening. A portion of Interlake Boulevard will be closed to permit pedestrian traffic and to accommodate special events. Many merchants are planning sidewalk displays and raffles.

Independence Day celebrations planned
SEBRING - All three municipalities in Highlands County will be celebrating the Fourth of July with various events.
There will be games, entertainment and food in Sebring at City Pier Beach. There will be a hot dog eating contest at 7 p.m. Groovus will play live classic rock music at 4 p.m.
Fireworks are scheduled to begin about 8:45 p.m.
In Avon Park, the fireworks show is set to begin at 9:15 p.m. at Donaldson Park on Lake Verona.
There will be fireworks beginning at 9 p.m. at Lake June in Lake Placid.
Musical revue slated at HLT
SEBRING - Highlands Little Theatre's July 4th Patriotic Musical Revue will be held Saturday, July 4.
Doors open at 10:30 a.m., with shows at 11 a.m., noon, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. The show is free.
Food and drinks will be available for a small charge starting at 11. Money raised benefits the HLT Scholarship Committee.
The theater is located in Sebring at 356 W. Center Ave.

Lake Placid to hold concert
LAKE PLACID - The town of Lake Placid is sponsoring a July 4th Fireworks Concert at 6:45 p.m. at Lake June Park.
The Highlands County Concert Band will be playing at the free concert.
Bok Tower Gardens offers July 4 carillon concerts
LAKE WALES - Bok Tower Gardens will celebrate the nation's 233rd birthday as part of the national "Let Freedom Ring 2009" festivities on July 4.
To honor the nation's military, free admission will be offered to all branches of the military, active, retired and disabled veterans. In addition to special carillon concerts at 1 and 3 p.m., the Singing Tower will ring 13 times at 2 p.m. joining other bells across America to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
A valid driver's license along with a DD214 or other active military identification needs to be presented at the entrance gate to receive the free admission and 50 percent off the admission for up to three accompanying guests.
The carillon concerts are included with general admission and free for members. General admission is $10 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12. Members and children under age 5 are admitted free.
