AVON PARK - An Avon Park Wal-Mart cashier was free on $1,000 bail Tuesday, after she was accused by store security of taking cash from her register.
Angela Marie Rivera, 34, of 2691 Mulberry Road, Avon Park, was charged with grand theft $300 or more but less than $5,000.
According to the arrest report, two of the store's loss prevention officers alerted Avon Park police that they believed a female employee was stealing.
On Feb. 21, Rivera's cash drawer was short $423 and on Feb. 22, her drawer was missing money three times in the amounts of $430, $810 and $111, making a two-day total of $1,774.
Security reviewed surveillance tapes and observed an employee taking money from sales and putting it under a mechanism that produced register receipts, the report stated.
Then during a break, the money was removed and placed into the employee's pants pocket, the report stated.
Police reviewed the surveillance tapes and concluded the person in them was Rivera. Rivera denied any wrong doing and told police she did not know what they were talking about.
Rivera was transported to the Avon Park Police Department headquarters and then to the Highlands County Jail.
