MULBERRY - MULBERRY The Mulberry boys soccer team scored two early goals on their way to a 3-0 ejection-shortened victory over the Lake Placid boys soccer team in the semifinals of the Class 3A-District 8 tournament.
The match was called with 30 minutes remaining after Lake Placid coach Josh Virkler was thrown out of the game for arguing with the referee.
"It's a disappointing way to end the season," Virkler said. "It was a bad error on my part."
Lake Placid appeared to score a goal off a direct kick with 30:12 remaining, but the score was disallowed when the Dragons were called offsides. Shortly after, Virkler was given a yellow card, then an immediate red card.
With no assistant coach on the bench at the time of the ejection, the game was called, ending the Dragons' season.
