LAKE PLACID - Taking advantage of ideal scoring conditions and a well-manicured Placid Lakes Country Club course, Brian Fragakis shot a 3-under-par 69 on Saturday to take the first-round lead of the Florida Junior Tour event.
More than 80 players, ages 16-18, are competing in the two-day, stroke-play tournament and Fragakis, who is from Royal Palm Beach, holds a two-shot advantage over Alec Ceravolo, of Palm Beach Gardens, who shot a 1 under 71 over the 6,500-yard par 72 Placid Lakes course.
Jack Maguire, from St. Petersburg, is in third place with a 72, while six golfers are tied at 73.
Erica Popson, of Davenport, leads the girls division with a 71, while Kristine Odalyar is at 73 and Cindy Feng is at 74.
The 36-hole event, which features some of the top juniors in the state, concluded Sunday with results not available at press time.
