AVON PARK - The Sebring girls weightlifting teamed was posing for a photo after winning the Travis Todd Invitational on Thursday, but for one of the Blue Streaks, the victory hadn't quite sunk in.

"We were up there taking a picture with the girls under the Travis Todd sign and one of our girls said, 'oh, we won," said Sebring coach Steve Berry. "It took her a while to figure out because we hadn't won that tournament before."

The Blue Streaks picked up points in every class, including a first-place finish at 183 pounds by Ton-Ann Dallas to hold off a hungry Avon Park team at the eight-team invitational.

Adriana Ramirez, Zakia Hart, Tykeria Wiley each won their weight classes for the second-place Red Devils, who were elated with their finish in the final tune-up before sectionals.

"The ones I have this year haven't placed at this tournament," said AP coach Pakitta Jones. "They were all excited to bring home a trophy."

In the 110-pound class, Adriana Ramirez lifted a 205-pound total to take first, followed by fellow Red Devil Daequarda Kinsey, whose 190-pound lift was 30 pounds heavier than third-place finisher Ashley Golemme of LaBelle.

At 119 pounds, Sebring's Samantha Spiegel took second place with a 205-pound total, followed by Avon Park's Nicole Allison and Terraine Hill in third and fourth, respectively.

In the 229-pound class, Blue Streak Karley Freeland finished second with a 230-pound total, while Avon Park's Hart easily won the 139-pound class with a 255-pound total, which included a class-best 130-pound clean and jerk.

Sebring's Megan Wolfe took third place in the 154-pound class with a 260-pound total, followed by teammate Alana Gordon, who totaled 235. At 169 pounds, Andejuoa Nixon took second place with a 285-pound total, while Sebring's Michelle Bash took third with 280.

Sebring's Dallas won the 183-pound class with 240 pounds, while Raney Sebring took third with 190.

At 199 pounds, Shankeria Laster took second with 275 pounds, while Avon Park's Wiley took first in the unlimited class with a 300-pound total.

Berry said he has 11 lifters qualified for next week's state qualifying meet, while the Red Devils will send nine. Both coaches are hoping the Travis Todd will give their lifters confidence heading into sectionals, which will be held on Thursday at Port Charlotte High School.

"It helps them get focused," Jones said. "They know what they have to aim for."
