LAKELAND - Frostproof scored two early goals off Lake Placid defensive lapses and the Bulldogs hung on for a 3-1 in the Class 3A-District 8 girls soccer championship at Southwest Park Complex.
The loss sends the district runner-up Green Dragons on the road next Thursday, when they'll be hosted by the winner of the Trinity Prep/Lake Highland Prep match.
The top-seeded Bulldogs improved to 16-3 on the season as senior midfielder Marisela Rivera scored in the opening five minutes of the match, followed by a score moments later from teammate Kayley Smith.
The Green Dragons pulled within one with 12 minutes left in the first half on a goal by Maribelle Garza via a corner kick by Erica Resendiz. But Frostproof answered immediately, as Rivera made a run down the right side and scored from 10 yards to put the game away.
