This is in reference to Dick Ford's Jan. 13 letter "Democratic Recession." Like most Republicans he feels Democrats are always to blame for all of the ills of our country.
Republicans insist the 2001 economic down turn was in progress and inherited by Bush from the Clinton administration. Even though Obama will inherit the current recession (maybe depression) from Bush, I'm sure you Republicans will find a way to blame it on the Democrats.
Mr. Ford claims, "Bush told Congress in 2001, that the lack of regularity restraint on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac was a potential problem that would cause strong repercussions in the financial markets." In 2005 you also state "Alan Greenspan told Congress to enable these institutions to increase in size, would place the total financial system of the future at a substantial risk."
Mr. Ford, apparently you are unaware that Republicans controlled Congress from 1995 until 2007 and the presidency from 2001 until the present time. It seems to me since both Bush and Greenspan identified potential financial crisis years in advance, that Bush and his Republican Congress would have taken appropriate action and we wouldn't be facing this recession now.
Mr. Ford, prior to writing any further letters on the current recession and blaming it on Democrats, I think you need an extensive refresher course to enable you to brush up on your knowledge of civics and to also stop listening and following the preaching's of Rush Limbaugh and the Fox News Network.
