SEBRING - A local man faces DUI charges after his arrest Thursday in the aftermath of a two-vehicle accident involving a Sebring police officer.
Joshua R. Jones, 33, of Sebring, is charged with driving under the influence (DUI), two counts of DUI resulting in property damage and one count of failure to drive within a single lane. He was out of jail Friday morning on a $1,500 bond.
Jones was eastbound on NW Lakeview Drive in a 2003 Ford F150, while a Sebring Police marked patrol car, driven by Viviane R. Buck, 39, also of Sebring, was southbound on Scenic Highway and stopped at the intersection of Lakeview Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
Buck turned right on Lakeview Drive, heading west, and was then struck by Jones' vehicle after he crossed over the double yellow line, the FHP said. The officer then backed her cruiser onto Scenic Highway and switched on her lights.
Jones was then arrested for DUI and failure to drive in a single lane. No injuries were reported and both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
The damage to Jones' Ford was listed as $8,000, while Buck's 2007 Ford Crown Victoria suffered $10,000 in damage, according to an FHP press release.
FHP Trooper Steven McKinney investigated.
