The Skylarks To Play For Dance Club

SEBRING - The Highlands Social Dance Club hosts ballroom dancing tonight from 7 - 9:30 at the Sebring Lions Club on Sebring Parkway.

Music will be provided by the big band sound of the Skylarks.

Free ballroom dance instruction from Walt and Sue is available at 6:30 p.m.

All club dances are open to the public. Appropriate dress is required.

Admission is $5 for members and $7 for non-members.

Bake, Crafts Sale At Palms Estates Festival

LORIDA - The Palms Estates Festival will be from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Feb. 28 on Palms Estates Road, just off of U.S. 98, in Lorida.

There will be a pancake breakfast from 7:30-9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. There will also be a bake sale, crafts sale, rummage sale and car wash.

Wood Carvers To Showcase Work

SEBRING - The Highlands Wood Carvers Show will be held Feb. 28 at the Sebring Civic Center, which is behind the library.

The hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

TJ And The Cruisers To Play At Church

AVON PARK - TJ and the Cruisers will perform Feb. 28 at UnionCongregation Church, 106 N. Butler Ave., in Avon Park.

The band will play '50s, '60s and '70s music from 7:30 to 11 p.m.

There will be a $2 cover charge and childcare will be available.

Movies On Tap At Three Libraries

SEBRING - Free movies will be shown Feb. 28 at the three public libraries in Highlands County.

"Jesus Christ, Superstar" will be shown at Lake Placid Memorial Library, 205 W. Interlake Blvd.

"Mamma Mia" will be shown at the Sebring Public Library, 319 W. Center Ave.

"Victor/Victoria" will be shown at the Avon Park Library, 100 N. Museum Ave.

All three films will begin at 2 p.m.

Blacksmithing Day At Bok Tower Gardens

LAKE WALES - Bok Tower Gardens will host Blacksmithing Day on Feb. 28 from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

A traditional forge will be used in a demonstration by nationally recognized blacksmith George Dixon, the last head blacksmith at Samuel Yellin Metalworkers, creators of the Great Brass Door and iron gates around the Singing Tower. In addition to forge work, he teaches at craft schools and colleges throughout the United States.

Nearly 100 members of the Florida Artist Blacksmith Association will be on hand for the demonstrations that will include treadle hammer chisel cutting both for outline and shape as well as chasing for textures and to create details. Hot work will include the split bar motif and many additional details of metal preparation, forming, detailing as well as finishing will be shown.

Sausage Roast In Highlands Park

LAKE PLACID - The public is invited to attend a sausage roast in Highlands Park Estates, from noon until 3 p.m., on March 1.

Location is on the shores of Lake Istokpoga at the Highlands Park Estates Beach Park. To get there, turn east off of U.S. 27 on C.R. 621 and go to Highlands Lake Drive (C19.) Go north 1 1/2 miles to Nichele Boulevardand turn left (formerly Lincoln Boulevard.) Immediately turn east (right) on Deerglen to Lake Istokpoga and the beach park.

There will be grilled sausages and hot dogs, baked beans, salad, dessert and beverage. Cost is $4 for adults and children from 5-12, $1.50 donation.

Music Series At Bok Tower Gardens

LAKE WALES - Bok Tower Gardens' Music at Pinewood concert series continues day, March 1 at 4:30 p.m. with a performance by pianist Krisztina Wajsza and classical guitarist Benjamin Bunch.

A reception with refreshments to meet the artists will follow the concert. Tickets are $25 or $20 for members.
