AVON PARK - A fiber optic cable, accidently cut about 1 p.m. Wednesday in Avon Park, left thousands of Embarq customers without access to the Internet.
Although telephone company workers mended the cut within an hour, said Embarq spokesman Tom Matthews at 4 p.m., "The circuits did not reset as they should have. There have been sporadic outages. We're still working on it."
The interruption in service did not appear to affect phone lines, Matthews said.
