AVON PARK - Sebring alumnus Chaz Abeln struck out 10 over 7.1 innings on Monday and fellow Blue Streak Ryan Williams hit his third home run of the season as the South Florida Community College baseball team cruised to an 11-4 victory over CBCC Catonsville (Maryland) at Panther Field.
Jerry Neufang was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a double and Ethan Lovell was 2-for-4 with three runs scored in a game the Panthers fought through some fatigue to pull out a win.
"Overall, we were sloppy and looked like we had played 19 games in 25 days," said SFCC coach Rick Hitt. "But we overcame it."
Hitt said Abeln settled down in the fourth to help the Panthers improve to 14-5 on the season.
"Chaz settled in about the fourth and really started pitching well," Hitt said. "His pace improved, as did his ball-strike ratio. He had pretty good stuff from then on, as he allowed one hit through six."
The Panthers are back in action at 5 p.m. today when they travel to Palm Beach CC. SFCC returns home at 6 p.m. Friday when they host CCBC-Dundalk.
