AVON PARK - Sebring took advantage of an infield error in the top of the ninth inning to score the go-ahead run in a 5-3 victory over Lake Placid at the Bill Jarrett Ford Early Bird Tournament at Head Field on Friday night.
The extra-inning win improved the Blue Streaks to 2-1 on the season, while the loss dropped the Green Dragons to 0-3.
Lake Placid's CW Vought pitched five solid innings and allowed only three runs, while Dylan Callahan threw the last four innings and suffered the loss.
"CW and Dylan did a real good job of throwing the ball," said Green Dragon coach Dan Coomes. "We had our chances to win and didn't execute and it cost us the game."
Lake Placid missed a golden opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, but a missed suicide squeeze turned into an out to end the threat.
"We only had two hits, made a couple of base running blunders and missed a suicide squeeze and you can't do that and expect to beat good teams," said Coomes. "We're just not executing, but we're going to keep working to become a better team."
The Green Dragons host Class 3A-District 10 rival Mulberry on Friday, while Sebring is at Class 4A-District 10 foe Palmetto on Tuesday.
SOFTBALL: Mulberry 10, Lake Placid 0
MULBERRY - Playing their third game in five days proved to be a little much for the Lake Placid softball team against Mulberry on Friday night.
The Panthers jumped out to a big lead and never looked back in taking a 10-0 five-inning win over the listless Green Dragons in a Class 3A-District 10 game.
"We came out flat and never really got anything going," said Lake Placid coach Marilyn Jones. "It was our third game of the week and we looked tired.
"We only managed two hits and the bus ride to Mulberry took longer than the game."
The loss dropped the Green Dragons to 2-2 on the season with a home game against Clewiston on Tuesday coming up.
