SEBRING - Niki Helms had an RBI triple and Kayla Clemens pitched a complete game in her first start of the season as the Sebring softball team rallied to defeat Frostproof 6-4 on Tuesday night.
"We were down the first four innings and we finally went up in the bottom of the fifth," said Sebring coach Joe Sinness, who noted both Sammie and Danielle Lower had multiple hits. "Our bats came alive."
Clemens gave up three runs in the first inning by settled down the rest of the way, holding the Bulldog bats in check.
"Frostproof was real scrappy and I was impressed," said the first-year coach. "They definitely have some girls who play travel ball."
The Streaks are back in action at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Palmetto.
TENNIS: Sebring Overpowers Clewiston
CLEWISTON - The Sebring boys tennis team got four singles wins and the girls got a gutsy performance out of No. 4 Kelsey Tucker on Tuesday as the Blue Streaks swept Clewiston.
The boys, who got singles wins from Mike Reed (6-0, 6-0), Kyle Komisar (6-0, 6-0), Nikhil Raghuveera (6-0, 6-0) and Vihong Nakhate (6-0, 6-0), while the girls got big wins from top seed Kelsey Johnson and Tucker, who played through an injury.
"She fell during the second set and hurt her hand and skinned her knee," said Sebring coach Jane Hollinger. "But she got up and won the next set on a tiebeaker, and I was very impressed."
Both teams are now 2-0 on the young season and host Braden River for a district match today. The boys host the Pirates at Sebring Country Club, while the girls hold court at Sun 'N Lake. Matches are set for 7:30 p.m.
