LAKE PLACID - Customers of the Placid Utilities water system are being advised to boil their water before drinking, cooking, or brushing their teeth.
This includes ice, soda fountains and drinking fountains, said a press release issued by the Highlands County Utilities Department.
Water was shut down at 3:30 p.m. Saturday to repair an eight-inch water line. Service was restored by 8:30 p.m.
Customers affected by the shutdown should boil water for two days, until bacteriological water samples show the water is safe to drink. A rescind notice will be issued.
The area is along U.S. 27, from the Highway Patrol office to the Stop & Shop, including Placid Temple and St. Francis Episcopal Church on Lake June Road and residences on Vista Drive.
