In response to Mr. Deeds' letter to the editor, I for one would like to ask him, if he is so interested in the happenings of his community why has he not attended any of the monthly open board meetings held at the SLID office?
The meetings are open to the public and the board is always interested in hearing input from any interested citizen.
Why does SLID needs more retention ponds? Our community has a mandate from South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) to correct conditions that have long been out of compliance. In fact, we are very lucky that SFWMD is not levying a fine on the community.
Yes, the flooding of private land to the east of Spring Lake is resolved. Why? Because this board decided to tackle the problem and negotiate a satisfactory settlement with the property owner that met both her needs as well as the needs of the village of Spring Lake.
The answers to his other questions could be obtained with a simple phone call to the SLID office.
Mr. DeCerbo has a notebook that was presented at the December meeting that any person is able to access by contacting the SLID office. In this presentation, every one of the questions that were brought up in the letter is addressed, including taxes and possible golf course management options.
Furthermore, Mr. DeCerbo works for the SLID Board of Commissioners, which we elected as a community. He does not have a vote in this process.
Yes something is amiss; there have been open meetings with more scheduled.
The SLID Board also plans to use the March issue of our community paper to further inform our residents about this important endeavor (this too was decided in last month's open board meeting).
In these open meetings, Mr. DeCerbo stated that purchasing the golf course is only one of two possible options that the Board must review.
Lastly, don't count me as one of individuals who are going to move out of Spring Lake because of this issue. This community is progressive, a truly tremendous place to live and it is only going to get better thanks to the work of our current Board of Commissioners and the District Manager.
