Anyone who believes that Tom Daschle, who by the way has an ego as big as a semi, willingly withdrew his nomination, well, I have a bridge to sell you.
It is obvious that the firestorm caused by the Geithner tax cheating exposure and Obama's subsequent holding fast, that nomination could not be duplicated.
The Daschle nomination was a no-win situation growing worse daily by every newsroom definition.
Even if as Obama says, he did not ask Tom to withdraw, you can be sure that someone in our new administration certainly did. So, Daschle throws himself on his sword and does the "honorable" thing, leaving our new president able to say that it was all his mistake.
Now the twist in all this is that Daschle, in the long run, was by all accounts the best man for the job. Fate is so cruel.
