No Cause Of Death For Youth Academy Resident
AVON PARK - A final determination of death for an Ocala youth who died at the Avon Park Youth Academy is pending a toxicology report.
"Sometimes that takes several months," said Donna Wood, public information officer for the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
John W. Kingcade, 17, was pronounced dead at Florida Hospital Heartland Division on Jan. 26. He was taken there after collapsing on the academy's basketball court following a game.
The victim's mother told detectives her son had a similar episode in the past that required hospitalization. Foul play was not suspected in the case.
Fake Prescription Lands Woman In Jail
SEBRING - Jodi Patton Neal, 33, was arrested Wednesday and charged with passing a forged or altered instrument and obtain a controlled substance by fraud.
Neal reportedly went to a local pharmacy to have a prescription of Oxycodone filled. An employee noticed the prescription was for 30 30mg pills, according to the arrest report.
A doctor was contacted to confirm the validity of the prescription. The physician reportedly said he wrote no such prescription for the subject.
Once law enforcement arrived, they asked Neal where she got the prescription.
She allegedly responded, "I made it," the report stated.
Highlands County Sheriff's Deputy Dennis Williams II made the arrest.
Woman Charged With Battery Against Cop
SEBRING - Ashley Lynn Staples, 19, of 3243 Northern Blvd., Lake Placid, was arrested Tuesday and charged with battery of an officer and resisting an officer with violence.
Authorities responded to an undisclosed address for reasons not listed on the report. While on the scene, the subject reportedly tried to leave. Once law enforcement told her she could not leave, Staples reportedly became physically violent, according to the arrest report.
As she was being handcuffed, Staples allegedly fought the deputies and kicked one in the groin area, the report stated. She was then tasered and handcuffed.
Highlands County Sheriff's Deputy Oliver Worley made the arrest.
