Golf Hammock Holding Ladies Golf Clinics

SEBRING Golf Hammock Country Club will hold ladies golf clinics with PGA/LPGA professional Nell Hays from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Cost is $12, which includes discount card for weekend play. All levels are encouraged.

YMCA Offering Badminton

SEBRING The Highlands County YMCA is offering badminton from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays for players ages 14 and up.

Sun 'N Lake To Hold Junior Golf Clinics

SEBRING Sun 'N Lake country club will hold weekly junior golf clinics from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays.

Cost is $15, which includes instruction in all areas of the game, including etiquette, rules and basic fundamentals.

McNall Holding Junior, Ladies Clinics

SEBRING Debby McNall is holding junior golf clinics and ladies clinics at Sebring Municipal golf course.

Junior clinics will run at 4 p.m. on Thursdays for ages 5 to 17. Cost is $10, which includes instruction on all aspects of the game.

Mixed clinics will run at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays for men and women. Cost is $15, which includes instruction on long and short game.

Watkis To Hold After School Tennis Camp

SEBRING Horace Watkis, 25-year USTA certified tennis professional, will hold after-school tennis camps until March 11 at the Thakkar Tennis Center at Sebring Country Club.

Cost is $75 for tiny tots (ages 4-6), $90 for future champs (6-12) and $120 for pre-tournament academy (12-18).

Weekend Youth Pick-Up Baseball Players Wanted

SEBRING Want to play ball? Need a break from video games? Players are being sought for pick-up baseball games at noon on Saturdays and Sundays at the YMCA softball fields.

There is no cost. Parents are invited to join in and play with their kids, and all skill levels and ages are invited. Games are for fun and beginners are welcome.

LP Chamber Of Commerce Family 5K Run/Walk On Tap

LAKE PLACID The second annual Greater Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce 5K family run/walk is set for 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21 at DeVane Park.

Cost is $15 through Feb. 13 ($10 for students) and $20 on race day.

Awards will be given out for overall male, overall female, first in male masters (40+), first in female masters (40+) and top three in age groups. Winners in each category will receive a heart monitor watch.

Avon Park Chamber Golf Tourney On Tap

AVON PARK The 12th annual Avon Park Chamber of Commerce golf tournament will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14 at River Greens golf course.

Cost is $60 each for the two-person flighted shotgun scramble, which includes golf, range balls, lunch, prizes and refreshments. There will also be a $2,000 hole-in-one prize.

The event is open to all golfers and couples are encouraged to participate in the Valentine's Day tourney.

Jim McFarling Memorial Tournament On Tap

SEBRING The third annual Jim McFarling Memorial Tournament will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 28 at Spring Lake's Panther Creek golf course.

Cost is $50 per player which includes lunch following golf and pin prizes. The four-person scramble requires two drives from each player. There will be a 50/50 drawing with men's and ladies closest-to-the-pin prizes and a chance to play hole No. 17 from 150 yards for a donation. Mulligans will be available and a raffle will be held.

All proceeds will benefit a scholarship fund for junior golfers involved in the Sertoma junior golf tour.

Fifth Annual McKinney Golf Outing On Tap

SEBRING The fifth annual Sons Of AmVets Bob McKinney golf outing will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 28 at Sebring Municipal golf course.

AVON PARK The inaugural "Rockin' in Paradise" 5K run/fun walk will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Highlands Ridge South's Founders Hall, 3003 East Fairway Vista Drive.

Cost is $15 prior to Jan. 29 and $20 thereafter. Price includes 50s-themed prizes, including poodle shirts and an antique car show. There will be medals given to top finishers in 15 age groups for both runners and walkers, along with entertainment, food and fun for all ages.

The event will benefit the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.

GOLS Indoor Soccer League Registration On Tap

AVON PARK Registration for Goals of Life & Soccer (GOLS) soccer league will be held at 9 a.m. on Feb. 7 at the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church Center (old AP Recreation center, across from tennis courts downtown).

Cost is $12 for the co-ed league, which is open to 13-18 year olds. Identification with proof of age required at sign-up. Each team plays one game per week from Feb. 17 to April 23 in the newly air-conditioned facility.

Thakkar Valentine's Tournament Upcoming

SEBRING The Highlands County Tennis Association will hold its annual Thakkar and Thakkar Valentine's mixed-doubles tournament at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Thakkar Tennis Center.

Cost is $35 per player for HCTA members and $45 for non-members, or $25 for non-players who wish to have morning refreshments, lunch and dinner. Finals will be held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 8. The tournament dinner will be held on at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 6 at Caddy Shack Restaurant. Partners can be found for single entries.

Registration deadline is 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

AVON PARK The 12th annual NU-HOPE Elder Care Services, Inc. golf tournament will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 4 at Pinecrest golf course.

Cost for the two-person scramble is $60 per person, which includes meal after play and refreshments during play. Teams will be flighted by total handicap.

Business sponsorships are available and early registration is encouraged.
