AVON PARK - Allie Fried had a double and Amanda Leiter and Cassady Faircloth had two hits a piece on Tuesday to lead the South Florida Community College softball team to its first victory of the season with a 6-4 win over Seminole CC.
The win, however, was marred by six fielding errors, a trend the Panthers (1-3) couldn't shake in the late game, in which they committed 12 errors in a 12-1 loss.
"The last couple of days at practice, we looked a little off-kilter and I think that translated onto the field," said SFCC coach Carlos Falla. "We're not catching it, not throwing it and not swinging the bats very well.
"Everyone's trying to do more than what they're capable of instead of staying within themselves."
The Panthers scored five runs in the fourth inning of the opener, but their bats went cold after that, as Falla said his Panthers struggled to swing at good pitches.
"It's hard enough to hit good pitches," Falla said. "We need to have better at-bats where we're taking good swings at good pitches."
The Panthers are back in action today when they host Lake Sumter CC in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
