IMMOKALEE - Lake Placid scored seven runs in the first inning and put up an encouraging team effort to open the season with a 7-1 victory over Golden Gate in the Immokalee Preseason Classic on Tuesday.
Alyssa Allen pitched a phenomenal game, as she went the distance and gave up no earned runs in leading the Green Dragons to the win.
Golden Gate scored in the seventh inning on an error to spoil the shutout for Lake Placid.
"This was a total team effort from our girls," said LP coach Marilyn Jones. "My girls are so excited that they were able to start the season off with a win."
The Green Dragons face host Immokalee today in the final day of the four-team classic. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
SOFTBALL: Hardee 14, Avon Park 8
ARCADIA - Hardee scored 10 runs in the fourth inning on its way to defeating district rival Avon Park 14-8 in the DeSoto Preseason Classic on Tuesday.
Amber Kindell pitched a solid game and Jamice Perry went 4 for 5 and scored three runs to help the Devils build an early 7-0 lead.
But the 'Cats took advantage of some errors and finally got the bats hot in the win.
"I saw some things I obviously didn't like, but this is our first game and it's nothing we can't correct," said first-year AP head coach Wade Jackson. "We only have a few girls with varsity experience on the roster and he have to use these games to help refine the skills of some of our new players."
Avon Park is back on the field tonight when they face Port Charlotte in the final day of the Classic. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
